How many toilets your crew needs, in plain words.

The rule

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 sets toilet counts for construction sites in Table D-1.
20 or fewer

Small crews

At least 1 toilet. A standard unit has 1 seat and 1 urinal.
1 per 40

20 or more workers

1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. At 200 or more, 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50.
1 per 10

Our planning number

With weekly service, plan 1 unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week. That is our advice, not the law.

Handwashing counts too

OSHA 1926.51(f) covers washing. Add a hand wash station or units with sinks.
1 per 20

Farm crews

OSHA 1928.110: 1 toilet and 1 handwashing facility per 20 workers, within a quarter-mile walk.
