How many porta potties do I need for a party?
A party needs 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests when it lasts 4 hours or less. Parties over 4 hours add 1 unit, and parties with alcohol add 1 more. A 60-guest birthday from 2 to 5 PM needs 2 units. Food means adding hand washing.
Porta potty calculator
Method: 1 unit per 50 guests up to 4 hours, then whole-unit add-ons shown above. Jobsite minimum from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. Confirm event rules with your venue or permit office.
| Party | Toilets | Hand wash |
|---|---|---|
| 40 guests, 3 hours, no bar | 1 | 1 if food |
| 60 guests, 3 hours, no bar | 2 | 1 if food |
| 120 guests, 5 hours, bar | 5 | 2 if food |
If any guest uses a wheelchair or walker, make 1 of the toilets a wheelchair-accessible unit. It counts toward the total.
When does the porta potty arrive for a weekend party?
A weekend party unit arrives Friday and leaves Monday. Thursday delivery is available on request when no one will be home Friday. The extra days cost nothing, because one flat price covers up to 7 days. There is no Sunday delivery or pickup, so a Sunday party still ends with a Monday pickup.
The delivery window is 7 AM to 7 PM, and the driver calls about 30 minutes ahead. Because the unit lands the day before, it is in place long before guests pull in. Mark the spot with a cone, flag or ribbon and no one needs to be home.
Where should a porta potty go at a backyard party?
A backyard party unit belongs on level grass or gravel, 30 to 50 feet from the food and seating, with the door facing away from the crowd. Our crew can roll a standard unit about 50 feet from the truck on a dolly. Gates need about 48 inches of clear width.
- Pick shade if you can. Afternoon sun warms the tank and the smell.
- Keep it off septic lids and well heads, and 10 ft from low wires.
- Light the path with string lights or solar stakes if the party runs past dark.
- Put the hand wash station between the toilets and the food line.
Our checklist for getting your yard ready for delivery covers gates, slopes and sprinklers.

Are party porta potties nicer than construction units?
Party porta potties come from a separate event stock that does not rotate to jobsites. Each one arrives cleaned, deodorized and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. A short party is not serviced mid-event unless you add a service visit, and one unit holds about 200 uses.
For a dressier event, step up to a deluxe unit with a sink or a flushing bowl. Grandparents and guests in nice clothes tend to notice the difference. Weddings have their own options on our wedding restroom page.

What kinds of parties and events do you supply?
Jeremy Rental Works supplies 6 common kinds of private events in Florence: graduation parties, birthdays, family reunions, church events, celebrations of life and backyard cookouts. Each one uses the same sizing rule and Friday-to-Monday schedule. The difference is usually unit choice, hand washing and how soon you book.
Graduation parties
May and June Saturdays book up first. Reserve as soon as the date is set.
Birthdays and cookouts
One or two standard units cover most yard parties. Add a hand wash station when the grill is going.
Family reunions
Multi-day reunions can add a service visit on Saturday morning to reset the units.
Church events
Homecomings, revivals and fish fries on church grounds work like any private lot with level ground.
Celebrations of life
Plans come together fast. Call by noon for same-day delivery when a truck is open.
Large public events
Ticketed or street events need clusters and accessible counts. See festival restrooms.
Do I need a hand wash station if I serve food?
A party serving food should add 1 hand wash station for every 3 toilets, rounded up. Each station has 2 sinks, soap, towels and about 30 gallons of water. The other choice is a deluxe unit with a sink inside, which works well when you only need 1 or 2 toilets.
Guests wash right after they leave the toilet, so set the hand wash station beside the units, not by the food tables.

Party porta potty questions
How much does a porta potty cost for a graduation party?
A standard porta potty for a graduation party starts at $175 for up to 7 days, with delivery and pickup included. A deluxe unit with a sink starts at $250. Tax is extra, and you pay in full when you book.
How many units does a 75-guest party that runs all afternoon need?
A 75-guest party lasting 5 hours with no bar needs 3 standard units: 2 for the headcount, rounded up from 1.5, and 1 more for running past 4 hours. Serving beer or wine adds 1 more. Make one wheelchair-accessible if any guest uses a wheelchair or walker.
Will the porta potty be in place before my party starts at 4 PM?
A Saturday party unit is delivered on Friday, so it is set the day before. A weekday party gets delivery the day before or that morning, and the driver calls about 30 minutes ahead.
Can I add a cleaning visit during a 3-day family reunion?
An extra service visit is $65. The driver pumps the tank, washes the inside and restocks paper and sanitizer. Saturday morning is a good time, since there is no Sunday service.
Can you deliver on short notice for a celebration of life?
Call by 12 noon, Monday to Saturday, and we can often deliver the same day in the Florence area. The same-day fee starts at $75. If no truck is open, the standard 1 to 2 business days applies at the regular rate.
How do I keep a party porta potty from smelling in the afternoon heat?
Every unit arrives deodorized. Put it in shade with the door facing away from the sun, and keep it 30 to 50 feet from the food. One unit per 50 guests keeps the tank from filling too fast.
Can the porta potty go on a church lawn for a homecoming?
A church lawn works like any private lot. Pick level, firm ground with a clear path, and keep it off septic lids. If the spot is in a public park instead, get the park office's approval first.
